Accountancy firms 'not relying on salaries to attract staff'

Accountancy firms are beginning to rely on more than salary figures to attract new workers as the jobs pool diminishes further, it has been claimed.
Financial recruitment company ECHM has found in recent research that hiring is set to soar over the next year, but employers are struggling to find the right candidates to fill their vacant posts.
Many firms were shown to be keen to take on new staff, but 54 per cent said that it was more difficult to find suitable workers now than it had been a year ago.
Kirsten MacLeod, ECHM operations director, said that firms were moving to raise their work-life balance credentials and enhance their brand reputation to draw in new employees.
"Clearly they are listening to the candidate population that salary increases in isolation are not enough to secure key finance hires in this competitive market place," she added.
According to findings by PSD Group, newly-qualified accountants in the south-east can expect to earn between £35,000 and £42,000 per year.
