Accountancy chiefs 'have a less than merry Christmas'

More than a third of accountancy firm bosses believe the Christmas party season has become too long, according to a recent survey.

Findings from the Chartered Management Institute's Christmas Outlook study also showed that a third of company chiefs were concerned that work may be disrupted during the festive period, Accountancy Web reports.

Of the 468 managers surveyed, 74 per cent said they held Christmas parties for their staff - down two per cent from last year - while businesses in London and the south-west were the most likely to celebrate, with 84 and 80 per cent respectively.

Aside from work, those surveyed were asked to name the song they most dreaded hearing during festivities, with the top answer being Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody.

Following on was music by Cliff Richard, in particular Mistletoe and Wine, while one in ten said they most disliked Jingle Bells.

Accountants were found to enjoy chilling out to festive favourite films It's a Wonderful Life, White Christmas and The Snowman, according to the results.

Some firms were recently criticised by a bishop, MPs and Muslim groups for not using the term Happy Christmas in their seasonal cards for fear of causing offence, the Daily Express reports.
