An international union of accounting companies is planning to address the dominance of the big four companies.

The alliance, entitled Praxity AISBL, has been set up by Mazars and Moores Rowland International, which can trace its roots back to 1930s Hong Kong.

Praxity is expected to prompt many US firms to ally themselves with Mazars, which is a major European organisation responsible for auditing 15 per cent of Europe's top 300 companies.

Firms using Praxity's services will benefit from representation in both financial and economic areas, the association states.

Jos Van Huut, Praxity vice chairman, said: "We live in an open and innovative world. The Praxity alliance offers significant and exciting additional opportunities for all businesses to expand their horizons. Now the world is their home market."

The organisation's chairman described Praxity's mission as being to provide businesses with dynamic services on an international level.

Of the alliance, he said: "We want to open up the world market and bring its infinite possibilities to everyone's advantage."
