The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is
calling on accountants to make greater use of talent management
programmes, with a view towards securing the best workers in the
finance sector.
According to the ACCA, one of the largest accountancy bodies in
the UK, talent management is key to the future of the
industry.
A report from the organisation shows that almost 80 per cent of
those surveyed believe that the sector could face a shortage of
effective accountants in the future.
Furthermore, more than 40 per cent of sector businesses have not
implemented dedicated talent management initiatives, with no plans
of doing so in the future.
ACCA head of business development Tony Osude emphasises the fact
that talent management would need to be tailored to meet the
specific needs of different businesses.
"The diversities of finance operations and the intricacies of
different businesses will require talent management processes to be
implemented differently," he told Accountancy Magazine.
"A formulaic approach just won't work."
The ACCA has seen an increase in members of 30 per cent in six
years, registering a total of over 59,000 members at the end of
last year.
This reflects general upwards trends in accountancy employment
uptake at large, with the six main bodies recording a combined
total of near 265,000 members at the end of 2005.
