A time to celebrate

Businesses in the UK should be taking advantage of the festive season in order to appreciate the hard work that employees have put in during the year, one sector commentator has claimed, advice that may prove useful in increasing productivity.

Mike Petrook, public affairs manager for the Chartered Management Institute, said it was important that employers took the time to say thank you to their staff, especially as Britons were currently under so much stress due to the economic downturn and its impact.

"It's vital to say that 'we understand the pressure you are under and we appreciate the work that you are putting in'. It's also a good way to channel energy for the year ahead," he added.

The Chartered Management Institute’s annual Christmas Outlook survey reveals that 70 per cent of employers in the health sector will host parties in 2008.

However, just 14 per cent strongly agree with the idea that employees' partners should be included.
