A recent online survey has shown that 78 per cent of web users now have SQL Server 2005 installed on their work stations.
The study, conducted on website SQLServerCentral.com, also highlighted that 75 per cent of respondents had installed the system onto their company's development server.
Most of those questioned said they were running the v2000 platform, while 59 per cent had opted for the v2005 version.
The majority of interviewees also said they would recommend that people upgrade their SQL systems to SQL Server 2005.
Benefits of the system were listed as including advanced reporting services, "wonderful" common table expressions functionality and online indexing.
The survey's author, Steve Jones, states: "The list of new features is long in SQL Server 2005 and it seems that many people think this is a worthy upgrade."
According to one of the website's columnists, Simon Munro, the XML feature in SQL Server also provides benefits, constituting a mechanism through which to approach old problems in new ways.
