'Green IT' among the business challenges of 2007

Energy efficient technology will be among the key challenges for companies in the new year, analysts have claimed.
According to European research organisation Butler Group, some businesses have a power efficiency level of 70 per cent, which compares with the 80 per cent maintained by domestic boiler or gas central heating.
In 2007, companies will have to examine their IT infrastructures to ensure better processor performance, greater disk densities and higher levels of throughput, the organisation states.
"It is clear that the whole power efficiency issue within IT is now firmly under the spotlight," said Mike Thompson, BPM practice director.
The organisation goes on to add that share-based solutions will "exceed all expectations" and that computer giant Microsoft may spark a price war through the commoditisation of the enterprise content management market.
According to research director Tim Jennings, a framework needs to be established by companies to support value measurement - a move which is currently being sustained through the broadening use of project and portfolio management.
A recent survey by talent management company Taleo showed that for many managerial staff, the biggest challenge they face in the coming year is recruitment or retention of staff, Easier reports.
