Accountants are being paid more than they expect, according to a new survey.
Research by justaccountancyjobs.com showed that ninety per cent of part-qualified accountants expected salaries of under £22,000 but that nearly a third were earning up to £2,000 more.
More than 60 per cent of part-qualified accountants were able to negotiate a better salary than originally offered.
Nearly 70 per cent of newly-qualified candidates also got a better deal than initially put on the table. Double the amount of accountants who expected a starting salary over £50,000 achieved it.
Richard Perrot, chief consultant for the website, said: "The best accountancy candidates are in hot demand and many have more negotiating power than they think."
The Birmingham Post recently revealed that nearly three in five accountants were unhappy with their current salary and benefits package. The research carried out by PASS magazine and Robert Half Finance and
Accounting showed that assistant accountants and trainee accountants were the most dissatisfied.
