One of the first applications that I imagined we could develop
for the iPhone platform was customer relationship management (CRM).
The integration between all of the different services (location,
email, phone, Google Maps) meant that you could take your customers
with you in your pocket. You'd be able to open up the application
on your iPhone, select a customer and then call them by clicking on
their phone number, email them by touching their email address, get
directions and find the quickest route from your current
location.
Well, the new customer enquiry feature of
Access FocalPoint for iPhone does all of those things, and
more. You can see a map of all the customers in the area of
either your current position or a selected customer - just in case
you finish early and have time to see another prospect.
It also provides access to your customers' data; turnover,
credit summary, profitability, contacts, and aged-debtors - this
can again all be viewed wherever you are.
Another great feature of the CRM software is it's multi-database
capability allowing you to quickly switch between databases without
having to manually retype the database name every time. This
makes it very easy to manage several companies through the
application.
It's simple to setup, you add the name of the database to a list
in the settings section and then there is a button on the home
screen which pops up and gives you the list to select from.
Once you change database it switches over and refreshes the
data.
This kind of functionality is what the iPhone was designed for -
I hope you enjoy using it as much as I've enjoyed developing it. In
the meantime, find out how the sales director for Access' Solutions
Division is enjoying using this new tool by reading
his iPhone app blog.
